Preventing Diseases Flashcards
Describe engulfing organisms.
Some white blood cells engulf pathogens, and from the inside of the cell, destroys the pathogen.
Describe producing antibodies.
Some white cells produce antibodies, targeting the antigens of pathogens. The antibodies are pathogen specific. The antibodies attach to the antigens to break it down. Once this has been performed for a specific pathogen, the body will be used to it and therefore destroy it quicker if the pathogen enters the body again.
Describe producing antitoxins.
When pathogens release toxins, some white blood cells have a defence, producing antitoxins, cancelling them out. The toxins attack the body cells to make the person with them feel ill. The white blood cells stop this from happening.
Name some places of the body that prevent pathogens from entering.
Check the diagram on GoodNotes.
How is blood clotting useful for pathogens to fail entering the body?
The blood dries on the skin surface, and prevents no empty space for the pathogens to enter.
