Pressure regulators Flashcards
All regulator types, sizes, capacities, and makes have three essential elements in common
Restricting element(fixed orfice), the measuring element (diaphragm), and the loading element( spring)
This portion of a regulator is the point at which gas entering a regulator goes through the greatest restriction, it limits the maximum flow capacity through the regulator
Restricting element( fixed orfice)
This portion of a gas regulator is usually made of neoprene. It’s attached to the valve stem and measures the outlet pressure.
Measuring element(diaphragm)
This portion of a regulator increases or decreases tension, acting on the diaphragm you can raise or lower the outlet pressure with the screw adjustment
The loading element( spring, sometimes weight)
This device is simply an over pressure relief valve designed to relieve excess gas pressure in order to protect the regulator and equipment downstream
Internal relief device
These devices are installed in a regulator vent to restrict the volume of gas, escaping from the regulator vent in the event of a diaphragm rupture
Ball check leak limiting device
This will activate on a regulator if the desired outlet pressure in the piping becomes too low from a large pressure drop
Low pressure trip
These regulators are used on natural gas service to a building where the regulator reduces the service pressure to the desired building pressure
Service regulator
Regulator used where the gas pressure in the building is higher than required at the appliances, typically commercial and industrial systems
System regulator
This regulator is found in the valve train or appliance manifold. Set to 3.5 inches water column.
Appliance regulator
This regulator is the most common type of appliance regulator incorporated into a combination gas valve
It acts on the diaphragm gas inside the combination gas valve
Servo regulator
What does the gas code state about permanent propane installation regulators
All permanent installations require two stage regulation
What regulator is for temporary installations only with propane
Dual stage regulator
Is the pressure in the gas line on the line pressure side of a gas valve without a pilot running
Line pressure
Is the pressure in the gas line on the line pressure side of the gas valve with only the pilot running
Standing pressure
Is the pressure in the gas line on the line pressure side of the gas valve with the appliance running
Operating pressure
Is the difference between standing and operating pressures
Differential pressure(pressure drop)
Is the pressure the gas flow has reduced the line pressure for the manifold
Manifold pressure
How far must’ve been termination be from a moisture exhaust duct ( dryer vent)
