Q

What is the speed of the vessel related to and therefore which is fastest

A

The larger the cross-sectional area, the slower the speed - therefore aorta and vena cava are the fastest while capillaries are the slowest due to there being so many capillaries that the area is larger

Q

Describe the skeletal muscle pump

A

Aids venous return - the veins and venuoles are surrounded by skeletal muscles which contract and squeeze the veins which push blood both down and up the vein but the valves help push it towards the heart
