To describe an action that it taking place NOW
How is it formed? (1st step)
Estoy Estás Está Estamos Estáis Están
What is the 2nd step of forming the present continuous?
For -AR verbs : +…..ando
For -ER & -IR verbs : +…..iendo
I am speaking
Estoy hablando
We are playing
Estamos jugando
They are eating
Estan comiendo
Irregular verbs : what to do when there are -er/-ir verbs that end in a vowel
Verbs cannot have 3 vowels in a row.
When these situations arise, place a ‘y’ where the ‘i’ would be - ‘yendo’.
The only exception is if the last letter of the root is a ‘u’. In this case the regular ending -iendo is fine.

Irregular verbs : what to do with -ir stem changing verbs
These are -ir verbs that already have a stem-change in the present tense. In the present tense, they change from ‘e to ie’ , ‘e to i’ ans ‘o to ue’. In the present continuous, they will change from e to i and o to u.
