Some evidence suggests schizos undergo a difficult birth and prenatal insults interact with genetic susceptibility such as: viral infections, vitamin d deficiency, preeclampsia and foetal hypoxia.
Preeclampsia is most significant risk factor can lead to deprivation of oxygen, iron, iodine and glucose.
Common complication though so does not produce schizo by itself.
Decline in shizo may be due to improved maternity care.
Increased when urbanisation occurred but could of just been better diagnosis.
