Working Memory Deficit & Auditory Attention Problems
Cognitive view accepts there are biological abnormalities associated with schizophrenia.
These are a result of those abnormalities.
Unable to explain why some relatives develop the disorder ad others do not.
Suggested some members have a low dose of the genes or have not been exposed to relevant environmental triggers.
Inability to Selectively Attend Material
Impairment of the selective attention mechanism would result in our senses being bombarded with information.
Catatonic schizo may result as it is the only way in which the amount o sensory info can be kept to a manageable level.
Disturbed Monitoring of Intentions
A lot of schizos believe their thoughts and actions are being influenced or even controlled by external forces.
Self monitoring is an unconscious process that tags our thoughts and intentions as our own.
Provides an individual with a sense of self awareness.
Schizos rarely recognise the auditory hallucinations as being self generated.
Evaluation
Schizos do show cognitive impairment especially alien control.
Unknown what gives rise to these problems.
Would e a big leap to say cognitive difficulties cause schizo themselves.
Could just be symptoms.
