Medication awareness is very important because
radiographers are often the first to observe the onset of medication responses that could have serious consequences.
A chemical agent capable of producing biologic responses in the body. The more general term that denotes a substance used in diagnosis, treatment, or disease prevention, or as a component of a medication.
Drug
Substances prescribed for treatment that produce therapeutically useful effects.
Medications
Drugs that are used to cure, prevent, or treat illnesses or discomfort.
Medicines
Drugs vs medicines
Drugs: General eg. paracetamol
Medicines: Specific eg. Panadol 5mg
Performs manufacture, preparation and dispense of drugs.
Pharmacy
Response of a drug that is desirable.
Therapeutic
Psychoactive vs pharmaceutical drugs
Psychoactive: Leads to addiction
Pharmaceutical: medicine
Response of a drug that is undesirable.
Adverse
Refers to an overwhelming feeling of physical need for a particular drug that must be met at all costs.
Addictions
It may be a physical or psychological need for a particular drug.
Dependence
May lead to a point that drug no longer has effect on pt

Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR)
PDR
The pages are color coded for (1), and the PDR lists drugs by both their (2) and their (3).

The PDR gives the accepted (1), (2), (3), and (4) for available drugs.

If a PDR is not readily available in the Radiology department, then the next best source of drug information is
