when would you choose lab testing over field testing?
- lab testing for smaller groups (ex: VO2)
- field testing for larger groups (ex: soccer team)
what are some factors affecting your test selection?
- specificity (ex: no basketball player to do long jump)
- training status (mid season vs. pre-season)
- age/gender/fitness level
what is the rule of thumb for the sequence of tests?
one test should not affect the result of the test after
ex: do not do windgate before vertical jump, want to alternate body parts
what are the pre-test instructions?
1) avoid alcohol (6 hours)
2) avoid caffiene (2 hours)
3) avoid large meals (2 hours)
4) avoid intense exercise
5) wear proper clothing
where should a pre-screen test be done?
- private location that is comfortable for you and the client
- equipment needs to be set up and calibrated prior to client arrival
what is the testing cut-off level for heart rate?
100 bpm after two attemps
what is the difference between systolic and diastolic BP reading?
- systolic = pressure in arteries when heart contracts
- diastolic = pressure in arteries when heart relaxes
what is the testing cut-off level for blood pressure?
144/94 mm/Hg after multiple tries
