muscular endurance Flashcards
what is muscular endurance?
the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to perform repeated contractions against a sub-maximal load for an extended period of time
as a trainer, should you increase strength or endurance?
endurance. Common cause of pain is muscular endurance
what is the physiology of muscular endurance?
- energy system adaptations
- capillarization
- Myoglobin
- mitochondria
- oxidative enzymes
- lactate clearing improvements
- mental stamina and sensory accommodation (ex: being able to push through pain)
what are some ways to assess muscular endurance?
1) push-ups
2) partial curl up
3) 1 min timed sit up
4) standard load (YMCA) test
5) relative load test
explain if someone scores high on standard load test and poor on 1 min sit up test (or vice versa)
does not have muscular endurance everywhere
explain someone who scores high on muscular strength test, but poor on endurance test
strength and endurance are different
if someone did excellent on a muscular endurance test, does that mean they would do excellent on an aerobic endurance test?
no, completely different
