practicum 4: aerobic & anaerobic Flashcards
when might you use RAST vs wingate? Explain
- if the athlete is large and you do not have enough weight to put on the wingate bike
- depends on the sport, you would not get someone who is on the field for a longer duration to do wingate
what does ‘fatigue index’ refer to? What does it tell you?
- fatigue index = % decline over the course of the test (0 = amazing)
- it tells you how much the athlete fatigues over the course of the test (the lower the percentage, the better)
identify a sport interested in Peak Watts vs Mean Watts. Explain
- long jump/shot put/discus example for peak watts
- hockey/soccer example for mean watts
identify an aerobic test you would select for a cyclist. Explain
storer-david maximal cycling test because it is related to their sport
identify an aerobic test you would do for a senior. Explain
- Rockport fitness walking test due to seniors typically having limited mobility, it is safer, and there is no reason to test their maximum capacity and risk their health
one error a physiologist may make when conducting a VO2 test
- insufficient warm-up
- increase intensity too fast
- sport specificity
one error a physiologist may make during the RAST test
- poor timing
- distance not measured correctly
- not counting the 10 seconds out loud
what fitness areas would you test immediately before & after?
Vertical jump before
Hand grip after
an important factor needed for sport that VO2 does not account for
- skill level
- technique
- mental toughness
- muscular strength
identify an aerobic test you would select for a large group. explain
- leger shuttle run (beep test)
- you can measure them all at once time and record each athlete as they do not make the beep
