Pre-Frontal Cortex Flashcards
What cognitive skills does the orbitofrontal cortex regulate
Inhibition and impulsiveness of social situations
What cognitive skills does the dorsolateral cortex regulate
Thought process, working memory, planning, moral judgement, insight and hypothesis generation
What cognitive skills does the medial pre-frontal cortex regulate
Emotions such as initiation, apathy, indifference, akinetic mutism and certain self awareness features such as emotional intelligence for self and others
Describe blood supply to the pre-frontal cortex
Orbitofrotal (Both ACA and MCA), Medial (ACA) and dorsolateral (MCA)
Describe Brocca’s and Wernike’s Language areas
Brocca’s is non fluent or expressive where as Wernike’s is fluent or also known as receptive
List the 5 aspects of Cognition
- Executive function. 2. Language. 3. Memory. 4 Attention. 5. Visuospacial
What factors come under Executive function
○ High Level attention ○ Initiation ○ Working Memory ○ Planning ○ Self Monitoring ○ Inhibition § Social § Behavioural § Cognition ○ Idea generation
What Factors come under Language
Working, short term, long term, Verbal, non-verbal, declarative and procedural
What are the two main areas of declaritive memory
Episodic (personal) and Semantic (general facts)
What main regions comprise the Limbic system
Amydala, Mamillary Bodies, Hypothalamus, limbic cortex, cingulate gyrus, olfactory bulb, fornix and the anterior thalamic nuclei
What does the limbic system control
Emotion, learning and memory
