Dizziness Flashcards
What are the 4 typical clinical syndromes of dizziness
- Acute vestibulopathy
- Recurrent Vestibulopathy
- Motion induced
- Chronic Dysequillibrium
What are the 5 most common causes of Acute vestibulopathy
Vestibular neuronitis, Cerrebellar/brainstem stroke, internal auditory artery ischemia and demyleinating diseases
What are the 3 most common causes of rercurrent vestibulopathy
- Miniere’s Disease
- Migrainous vertigo
- Vestibulo basilar ischemia
What are the 2 most common causes of motion induced vertigo
BPPV and Uncompensated peripheral vestibular lesion
What are the mechanisms to differentiate between vestibuloneuronitis and cerebellar/pontine stroke
Stroke will have wide range of bidirectional horozontal vertical and torsional nystagmus with severe ataxia that must require assistance to stand. Stroke will also be head impulse test negative. Hence there will also be additional neurological defecits present. If all present then get a CT to reconfirm
What are the typical neurological signs
- Diplopia
- dysphagia
- Dysarthria
- Motor/sensory and visual field defects
