Pain Flashcards
What is allodynia
Decreased threshold to pain
What is hyperalgesia
Is when painful stimuli is amplified
What are the 3 different types of pain
Noxious, inflammatory and maladaptive pain
Different types of maladaptive pain
Dysfunction (no lesions or pathology) and neuropathological (lesions and pathology)
Diferrent chemicals involved in inflammatory sensitisation to pain
PGE2, bradykinin and inflammatory cytokines, they sensitise ion channels to a decreased threshold
How does PAG pathway regulate pain
Input from spinalmesencephalic tract and amygdala to the PAG in the midbrain. Projects to the raphe nucleus and then to the laminae II region where enkephalin and dynorphin are released to act on mu receptors of ascending sensory fibres to regulate firing
What is Periphral neuropathic pain?
- Peripheral neuropathic pain
- Can become sensitised due to their damage
- Can generate false Aps
- Can occur anuwhere along the tract
- Can have Allodynia which can cause extreme pain
What sensitises TRPV1
Capsaicin from chilli
what Fibres for sharp pain
Adelta which enter laminae I and V
What fibres for delayed pain
C fibres which enter laminae I and II
Some examples of noxious pain
H+, pressure, cold, heat, chemicals and trauma
T/F Activation of Nociceptors always leads to paain
No, can have anesthetics that regulate/modulate pain
