Neurological Disorders Flashcards
What is Catatonia
Is where the patient maintains a rigid posture that is able to be held when manipulated
What are the traits of neurons in Schizophrenia
Decreased neuron size, decreased neuron connections (thalamus and cortex), altered cell skeleton (wnt pathway), loss of glial density (astrocytes)
What is the pathopysiology of Autism
Is located in the dorsolateral region of the prefrontal cortex and is a disorder of microglia. Microglia will swell and retract their processes. Therefore there is an overgrowth of the microglial cells and this is in the absence of proinflammatory cytokines. There are also a number of SNPs that have been identified and that help to diagnose the condition
What aspects of cognition does the dorsolateral region of the pre-frontal cortex control?
Hypothesis generation, working memory, planning and organisation, insight and judgment
