Practicals Flashcards
What can be used to detect carbon dioxide?
Limewater, as it reacts with carbon dioxide to form chalk, which turns it cloudy.
Why do different animals have different teeth?
They eat different things, so they require different tools to consume their food.
What do the kidneys do?
They filter out potentially poisonous waste products from the blood.
What might a plant that is bubbling in water be producing?
Oxygen, through photosynthesis.
What is a control?
Something that you do in an experiment to ensure that the set up works.
How can you measure osmosis in a chip?
You can weigh a chip and place it in different solutions. You can then see how much mass it has lost or gained. You can also see how surface area to volume ratio affects the rate of osmosis.
What does Hydrogen Carbonate indicator do?
It states how much Carbon dioxide there is in the solution. If there is lots, it turns yellow and if there is little, it turns red. Its natural colour is orange.
What is a potometer?
It measures the rate of transpiration in a plant, either by measuring weight loss, or by measuring rate of water uptake.
