How can smoking cause Lung Cancer?
The tar and other chemicals can cause cancerous tissue to grow in the lungs. This then means there is less surface area for gas exchange, and there is shortness of breath.

The bronchiole can release too much mucus and the cilia cells can’t brush it away. This lead to infections as the mucus and lungs are infected.

The chemical get trapped in the alveoli, leading to and inflammatory response that destroys tissue and can lead to there being an empty area of the lung.
How can smoking cause Carbon Monoxide poisoning?
The carbon monoxide binds onto haemoglobin, preventing it from carrying oxygen. This means not enough oxygen is getting to cells which means no more respiration.
How can smoking cause Heart Disease?
The nicotine damages blood vessels, leading to constricted blood vessels and fatty deposits that can cause a heart attack.
