Immune System Flashcards
What cells produce antibodies?
Lymphocytes
After you get a disease, what are the cells that remain and guard you against more illnesses?
Memory Cells.
What do vaccines contain?
A dead or weakened form of the pathogen that can nevertheless trigger an immune response.
What do vaccines do?
They trigger an immune response, and the body produces memory cells. This then means that the person is guarded against future versions of that illness.
What do antibodies do?
They attach to the antigens on the Pathogen’s wall, and they cluster on the pathogen, inhibiting its movement. Then, Phagocytes can destroy the pathogen.
What are antigens?
Chemicals on the pathogen that antibodies attach to.
