What does the acronym FADEC stand for?
Full authority digital electronic control
What is the primary electrical power source for engine control and the ignition system?
PMA
How many separate electrical windings does the PMA have?
Four:
2 three phase windings, and 2 single phase windings
What are the sources of N2 speed for the FADECs
Primary: one dual channel N2 sensor on the accessory gearbox
Secondary: from one of the three phase windings on the PMA
What are the sources of N1 speed for the FADECs
Two door channels sensors provide both primary and secondary speed signals, located at 11 and 12 o’clock on the left engine and 12 and 1 o’clock on the right engine
Above what N2 speed can the PMA provide sufficient power to drive the ignition system and FADEC
10% for the ignition system, and a minimum of 50% for the FADECs
How many igniters does each engine have, and where are they located?
2: at 12 and 6 o’clock positions
How many fuel nozzles are there on each engine?
16
How is the FADEC in command alternated
Automatically upon each engine start, and manually through use of the FADEC Control knob on the overhead panel
This knob becomes inoperative if held in any position for more than three seconds
While one FADEC controls the power plant, the other remains in standby mode, what does the standby FADEC do
It monitors all inputs, performs, all computations, and performs built-in test and fault detection. Output drivers for fuel flow and CVG Control powered off.
Why is each FADEC connected to one of the FADEC’s on the opposite engine
For thrust reverser interlock and automatic takeoff thrust control system
What are the thrust rating modes that can be selected for the A1 engines?
CLZ, CLB, CON, ALT/TO-1, TO-1
When will the FADECs command N1 Target?
When the thrust levers are positions in the detent
If a thrust reverser inadvertently deploys in flight, how will the FADECs react?
They will automatically select idle thrust
Where must the thrust levers be positioned to enable the engine to be shut down?
At idle
How are Target N1 and Requested N1 shown on the EICAS?
Target N1 is a blue T and the Requested N1 bug is a solid green triangle
Which thrust mode should be selected in flight with one engine inoperative?
CON
Which conditions must be met to select CON mode?
Pressure altitude must be greater than 300 ft above takeoff altitude with no gear down and locked, or pressure altitude greater than 1,700 ft above takeoff altitude
What conditions must be met to select CLB mode?
Pressure altitude must be greater than 500 ft above takeoff altitude with no gear down and locked and no one engine inoperative signal, or pressure altitude greater than 1,700 ft above takeoff altitude and no OEI signal
Under what conditions will the FADEC select T/O 1 mode?
-FADEC power up
-TO thrust rating button pressed with aircraft on the ground and TLA less than or equal to 50 degrees
-Gear down and locked below 15,000 ft
-When ATTCS is triggered during operation in ALT T/O-1 mode
-When thrust levers are advanced past the THRUST SET position
Where are the takeoff data setting controls located?
On the overhead panel and consist of a store button and a control knob
What information must be entered by the pilot for takeoff data?
- Takeoff mode
- Reference takeoff temperature
- Reference anti ice condition
Where is the takeoff data shown?
On the takeoff page on the MFD
What causes the MFD to show amber dashes where the takeoff data should be, and what should be done?
The takeoff data has not been accepted because Ref TO temp is outside acceptable limits
What does the caution message ENG REF A/I DISAG mean?
The anti-ice system condition does not agree with the ref anti-ice condition selected on the takeoff data
What is the purpose of the automatic takeoff thrust control system (ATTCS)?
To reschedule takeoff thrust to maximum takeoff thrust in an event an engine failure is detected during takeoff
