What are the four areas covered by the fire protection system?
Engines, APU, lavatory, and baggage compartment
What are the items to be checked on the fire detection test?
Both fire handles illuminated, BAGG EXTG button illuminated, master warning lights illuminated, EICAS warning messages (APU, fire, ENG 1/2 fire, BAGG SMOKE), EICAS caution messages (APU FIREDET FAIL), fire aural warning
How long must the button be held when conducting the fire detection system test?
At least three seconds, and no longer than 10
Why should the fire detection test button not be held longer than 10 seconds?
The APU will automatically shut down
What is the wait time between tests if it is necessary to repeat the fire detection test?
Six seconds
How many fire extinguisher bottles are installed in the system for engines and APU
3: 2 for the engine, and one for the APU
How will the pilots know if any bottle has been discharged or is inoperative for any reason?
A caution message on the EICAS
How is the fire detection system monitored to detect failures
By an integrity switch, which is held closed by the sensor tubes internal pressure. Loss of pressure will open the switch and generate an EICAS warning
Where are the fiire extinguishing bottles for the engines and APU installed?
In the tail cone compartment
If the engine fire handle is pulled and then rotated counterclockwise, which bottle will be discharged
Extinguisher A
Which valves will be closed by pulling the fire handle
Fuel shut off valve, hydraulic shut off valve, engine bleed valve, engine lip and ice valve
What happens when the guarded APU fire extinguishing button is pressed
The APU fire extinguisher is discharged, and the APU fuel shut off valve is closed
When will the APU fire detection system provide a signal to shut down the APU automatically
In case of fire warning during ground operation

One smoke detector in the ceiling, and one fire extinguisher bottle on the waste container

What happens if smoke is detected in the baggage compartment?
The baggage compartment fan is shut off and the baggage extinguisher button on the overhead panel is illuminated

One behind the captains seat and one each in the forward and aft sections of the passenger cabin
