Q

Deltoid

A

Origin: lateral third of the clavicle, acromion, and spine of the scapula

Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of the humerus

Innervation: axillary nerve (C5,C6)

Action: clavicular part - flexion and medial rotation of the arm; acromial part - ABD of arm; spinal part - extends and laterally rotates arm

Q

Supraspinatous

A

Origin: supraspinous fossa of scapula

Insertion: superior facet of greater tubercle of humerus

Innervation: suprascapular nerve (C4,C5,C6)

Action: initiates and assists deltoid in ADD and acts with other rotator cuff muscles

Q

Infraspinatous

A

Origin: infraspinous fossa of the scapula

Insertion: middle facet of greater tubercle of humerus

Innervation: suprascapular nerve (C5,C6)

Action: laterally rotates arm and helps hold humeral head in glenoid cavity

Q

Teres minor

A

Origin: middle part of the lateral border of the scapula

Insertion: inferior facet of greater tubercle of humerus

Innervation: axillary nerve (C5,C6)

Action: laterally rotates arm and helps hold humeral head in glenoid cavity of scapula

Q

Teres major

A

Origin: posterior surface of inferior angle of scapula

Insertion: medial lip of intertubercular sulcus of humerus

Innervation: lower subscapular nerve (C5,C6)

Action: ADD and medial rotation of the arm

Q

Subscapularis

A

Origin: subscapular fossa

Insertion: lesser tubercle of humerus

Innervation: upper and lower subscapular nerves (C5,C6,C7)

Action: medial rotation and ADD of the arm and helps hold humeral head in the glenoid cavity
