Clinical Diagnoses Flashcards
Lateral epicondylosis (Tennis Elbow)
Pain or tenderness at lateral epicondyle and with wrist extension, weak grip - extensor carpi radialis brevis is most commonly involved
Nursemaid’s elbow
Radial head dislocates from annular ligament
Wrist drop
Damage to radial nerve
DeQuervain’s syndrome
Tenosynivitis (inflammation) of the first compartment (extensor pollicis brevis and abductor pollicis longus ) - ulnar deviation with flexed fingers causes pain
Fracture of the scaphoid
Fall on an outstretched hand - long healing process due to poor blood supply to the scaphoid
Colles fracture
Fracture of the distal radius - causes a dorsal (posterior) displacement
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Inflammed tendons causes a compression on the median nerve - 9 tendons involved and 1 nerve (median nerve)
Supracondylar fracture
Fracture of the humerus superior to the epicondyles
What are extensure contractures?
Occur when patient is immobilized and unable to flex MCP joint at least 70-90 degrees
-ex: cast too distal
Duputruyen contracture
Occurs more commonly in men when the palmar fascia thickens and pulls the pinky and ring finger down into flexion
Mallet finger
Permanent extension at PIP and flexion at DIP
Trigger finger
Occurs when finger gets caught in tendon sheath due to inflammation
