POST OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS AND COMPLICATIONS Flashcards
Frequent recurrent swelling of 12
10mm pocket depth on mesial only
a. Post-operative complication need to be explained prior scaling and RSD on 12 (4)
Gingival pain, swelling, bleeding last for few days
Tooth hypersensitivity
Compromise aesthetics as recession and larger interdental space
Mobile teeth
Frequent recurrent swelling of 12
10mm pocket depth on mesial only
b. After RSD, Patient discovered here is a swelling in 12. Give 2 causes and respective management (4)
- Causes
- Traumatic non-surgical therapy
- Subgingival calculus left while supragingival gingiva healed
- Management
- Provide patient with NSAIDs and reassure the patient will be well after a couple of days
- Instrumentate again to remove the subgingival calculus
a. After your non-surgical periodontal therapy, your patient complained about increased interdental space in the lower anterior region, sensitivity upon drinking warm water, and pain in gingiva, provide explanations (4)
- Before treatment, there was gingival inflammation which led to the swelling of gums.
- After treatment, the gingiva became less inflamed hence less swelling
- The gingiva between the teeth, interdental papillae, is less swollen hence there is an interdental space between the teeth
- The decrease in swelling will reveal the cementum of the tooth which will cause sensitivity upon drinking warm water
- Due to instrumentation, the damage of the gingiva is inevitable.
b. Management of the above situation (6)
