Define ecology
The study of the inter-relationships between organisms and their environments
What are abiotic factors?
Non-living factors such as temperature and rainfall
What are biotic factors?
Living factors such as competition and predation
Define biosphere
The regions of the surface and atmosphere of the earth or another planet occupied by living organisms
Define biome
A major community such as grassland or desert, characterised by the the dominant forms of plant life and prevailing climate
Define ecosystem
A biological community of interacting organisms
Define community
An interacting group of various species in a common location
Define populations
Groups of individuals belonging to the same species that live in the same region at the same time
Define individual
A single, separate organism distinguished from others of the same kind
Define niche
The specific area where an organism inhabits and its role in the community
Define habitat
The place where a community of organisms live
