What were the causes of the rising threat of a Communist revolution?

A

The naval blockades created shortages.
Democracy was imposed on the Germans.
The Bolshevik revolution of 1917 saw Lenin and Trotsky take over the Provisional Government with the Communist Party. This led to councils, (soviets), forming in October 1918 by soldiers, sailors, and workers.

What were the causes for the Kapp Putsch (1920)?

A
  • High taxes for the upper classes due to the reparations.
  • The harsh terms of Versailles caused resentment to Weimar. They were the November Criminals.
  • In March 1920 they announced they would reduce the army size and disband the Freikorps.

Who was involved at the Kapp Putsch?

A

The leader of the Freikorps, Ehrhardt, refused to comply and formed a plan with Wolfgang Kapp to seize Berlin and make a right-wing government with Kapp as Chancellor. General Luttwitz of the Reichswehr supported this.

What happened at the Kapp Putsch?

A

Events started with a successful Putsch on March 13, 1920. This led to Weimar fleeing to Dresden and then Stuttgart. The Weimar politicians asked the public to strike, with civil servants supporting this. This led to the putsch coming to an end.
