Employee’s responsibilities
A
- No work may be done outside the scheduled work hours unless approved by their immediate supervisor.
Court appearances and emergencies requiring law enforcement intervention is an exception, but supervisor should notified of overtime ASAP - All OT shall be documented on their sign in sheet or VTI. The department does not permit employees to work OT without compensation
- Employees shall take meal periods during their work shift and document it. If the employee is unable to take a lunch break, they are required to report it to their supervisor before the end of shift.

Supervisor’s responsibility?
A
- To make sure subordinates are compensated for all legitimately worked OT wether pre-approved or not
- If an employee violates the department OT policy the supervisor will make sure the employee signs in for OT and counsel the employee
- All OT policy violations shall be documented

How should a supervisor ensure employees comply with overtime department policy?
A
- Monitor employees to make sure they are not working outside their scheduled work hours without compensation
- Review daily logs/ sign in sheets(VTI) for completion and accuracy.
- If the VTI is missing a lunch break determine if the employee worked through his unpaid meal break
