What is the field supervisor responsible for when his deputy is initiating a pursuit?
- Immediately ascertain all reasonable information to assess the situation and risk factors associated to ensure the pursuit is within department guidelines.
- Exercise management and control of the pursuit
- Refrain from being a participant, if a participant the supervisor will discontinue as soon as the primary or secondary unit arrive.
- Ensure no move than the required units are involved
- Terminate pursuit if it is unjust to continue
- Ensure aircraft is requested
- Ensure proper radio channel is being used
- Notification and coordination with outside agencies if needed
- Controlling and managing units if pursuit enters another jurisdiction.
- Prepare post-pursuit critique and analysis for training purposes

What should a sergeant consider when an outside agency request sheriff units to join a pursuit?
- Ability to maintain the pursuit
- Circumstances serious enough to continue the pursuit
- Adequate staffing to continue the pursuit
- The public’s safety within this jurisdiction
- Safety of the pursuing deputies.
A sergeant should review a request for help from another agency and may decline to help

What are the supervisors reporting requirements for a pursuit?
The field supervisor shall complete a Pursuit Report form (CHP 187a) as mandated by vehicle code 14602.1.
The CHP 187a will submitted with the pursuit evaluation (copies to training division commander) to the department commander.

The field supervisor shall complete a Pursuit Evaluation Report, which shall contain what information?
The Pursuit Evaluation Report shall contain the following:
- Date and time of pursuit
- Starting and termination points
- Length of pursuit
- Radio frequency
- Initial reason for pursuit

- Primary deputy
- Involved deputies
- How terminated
- Disposition (arrests, citation etc
- Injuries or property damage
- Medical treatment
- Name of supervisor at the scene
- A preliminary determination wether pursuit appears to be in compliance with this policy and wether additional follow-up or review is needed.

If the field supervisor was a participant in the pursuit who will identify a non-involve supervisor?
The department commander will identify a non-involved field supervisor to respond to complete and submit reports
