PNF - diagonals Flashcards
diagonal patterns
composed of multi-joint, multi-planar, diagonal and rotational movements of the extremities, trunk and neck
what are the two pairs of diagonal patterns for the upper and lower extremities
D1 flexion and D1 extension
D2 flexion and D2 extension
UE D1 flexion
shoulder flexion, adduction, ER
forearm supination
wrist radial deviation
fingers flexed
UE D1 extension
shoulder extension, abduction, IR
forearm pronation
wrist ulnar deviation
fingers extended
UE D2 flexion
shoulder flex, abd, ER
forearm supination
wrist radial deviation
fingers extended
UE D2 extension
shoulder ext, add, IR
forearm pronation
wrist ulnar deviation
fingers flexed
how are diagonals identified
by the position of the shoulder or hip when the diagonal pattern has been completed
how do motions occur during diagonal patterns
motions of body segments distal to the shoulder or hip occur simultaneously
what is the starting position of UE D1 flexion
pt starts with arm down and palm down
what is the starting position of UE D1 extension
pt starts with arm up in flexion palm down and across their visual space
what is the starting position of UE D2 flexion
pt starts with arm in IR and adducted position across chest with forearm pronated
what is starting position of UE D2 extension
start with arm overhead in abduction, ER and flexion and arm in supination
LE D1 flexion
hip flex, add, ER
dorsiflexion
inversion
toes extended
LE D1 extension
hip ext, abd, IR
plantar flexion
eversion
toes flexed
LE D2 flexion
hip flex, abd, IR
DF
eversion
toes extended
