Organization divided into functions, each with a functional manager. Arranged by work being done.
Each dept acts independently of others.

Governance Framework
Describes the rules, policies, and procedures that people within the organization abide by.
Addresses the organization, but also the portfolios, programs, and projects.
Addresses alignment (port, prog, proj) with org vision, risk management, performance factors, and communications

Organizations with duplication of efforts within the org, but not within each dept or division (e.g. IT dept for each division). Decentralized.

Loosely organized - people work side-by-side. No big formal depts (startup)

Organizational Process Assets (OPAs)
Collection of processes, policies, procedures from corporate knowledge base.
2 categories:
1) processes, policies, procedures.
2) organizational knowledge bases
Organizational knowlege repositories
Databases, files, historical info used to better plan/manage a project.
E.g. of an OPA created internally.
Organizational system
Can create things by working with multiple components that working with individual components could not create if they worked alone.
Org system directly affects how the PM utilizes their power, influence, leadership, and even political capital, to get things done in the environment.
Project Management Office (PMO)
Business unit that centralizes the ops and procedures of all projects within an org.
Supportive, controlling, or directive.
