Q

Why are earthquakes and volcanoes found at plate boundaries?

A

They are formed because of the movement of the convection currents in the mantle . These convection currents move the tectonic plates on the outer crust , these tectonic plates sometimes move underneath , side by side and against each other. When this happens the ground shakes or lava is built up in the magma chamber.

Q

What happens at a destructive plate boundary?

A

This plate boundary usually involve a continental plate and an oceanic plate . When these two plates move into each other, the oceanic plate because its denser it travels underneath the continental plate causing a oceanic trench . The oceanic plate sinks deeper and deeper into the earth until it makes it to the mantle to form magma in the magma chamber which builds up beneath the earths surface. The magma then escapes through the rock and rises up to create a composite volcano . The volcanic eruptions are violent with lots of steam, gas , ash and sometimes pyroclastic flows. Also during the movements the plates can also create earthquakes

Q

What are convection currents?

A

Convection currents are when the inner core builds up magma and rock all the way to the mantle where the rocks will make their back round to the inner core dragging the crust with it , this then causes the tectonic plates to move about .The rocks get cooler and cooler as they move downward and then the rock reheats as it is dragged to the inner core and starts the process again. This process is convection currents. Whilst this happens the tectonic plates on the crust are moved about . Convection currents are important because it is a process that has a way of moving energy and heat from hotter areas like the inner core to cooler parts of the earth.

Q

What happens at a divergent continental plate boundary?

A

This is when two continental plates move away from each other creating a gap in the middle of the two. This gap has allowed magma to rise through the gap and creating a shield volcanos across the borders pf the tectonic plates

Q

What happens at an oceanic convergent plate boundary ?

A

When two oceanic crusts move apart from each other because of convection currents that push them apart. Magma then rises through the gap creating a shield volcano . Or it could create a gap in the ocean like the mid altantic ridge
