Why were the impacts of haiti so bad?
They were so bad because…
. The magnitude of the earthquake on a seismometer was 7.0 which is the tremor of the earthquake.
. On a mercalli scale it was a 10 based on the great destruction of the cities.
. The epicentre was close to the capital which made the tremor and destruction greater as it was closer to the crust.
. The buildings weren’t correctly designed , the goverment used cheap materials like concrete to build them. This made the buildings fall easier which means more destruction and made them not able to withstand the earthquake.
. The population of people was great in one area , which meant more deaths.
. They weren’t prepared for an earthquake, which might of caused people to panic causing destruption and more people not knowing about the earthquake.
. The Haiti government have a low GDP of 650 which meant that the infastructure of buildings were likely to be destroyed.
