Biomes Flashcards
What is a biome?
Biomes are regions of the world with similar climate, animals and plants.
What is a biosphere?
A biosphere is made up of the parts of earth where life exists. It is broken up into several large large living ecosystems such as the tropical rainforest.
Where are the global biomes located?
Tundra- found near the north and south poles
Coniferus forest- scandinavi
Temperate decidous forest- found across Europe and the USA
Temperate grassland- found in Hungary,South Africa,Argentina and USA
How do major biomes differ?
-Temperature and rainfall
- soil type
- life that inhabits there
- vegetation
- light
- different seasons
How are drip tips adapted to the tropical rainforest?
Drip tips- plants that have leaves with pointy tips which allows water to run off the leaves quickly without damaging or breaking them
How are ephiphtes adapted to the tropical rainforest?
Plants that live on high branches on trees high up in the canopu to get sunlight and water
How does a sloth adapt to a tropical rainforest?
Camourflaging so that predators don’t see it
How does a spider monkey adapt to a tropical rainforest?
Has long strong limbs to help it to climb through the rainforest trees
How does a flying frog adapt to a tropical rainforest?
Has fully webbed hands and feet, and a flap loose skin that stretches between its limbs. This allows it to glide from plant to plant.
How does a toucan adapt to a tropical rainforest?
Has a long large beak that is used to reach out to food on branches that are too weak to support its weight.
What is an invasive species?
An invasive species is an organism that is not native to a particular area.
What is an example of an invasive species?
An example of an invasive is a grey squirrel . This species can out compete the native species in a ecosystem that may not be able to survive and become endangered or extinct
