Plant Hormones Flashcards
1
Q
Where is auxin produced and how does it work?
A
It’s produced in the tips and it moves backwards to stimulate the cell elongation process.
2
Q
Auxin controls the growth of a plant in response to…
A
Light, gravity and moisture.
3
Q
Shoots grow towards the light, why?
A
The auxin goes to the shaded side of the shoot which causes the shaded side to elongate more quickly, bending the shoot towards the light.
4
Q
Roots grow downwards (towards gravity), why?
A
Because auxin falls on the lower side of a root growing sideways and extra auxin inhibits growth in roots so the top side of the root elongates faster than the lower causing the root to bend downwards.
