What is the pathophysiology of infection with Y. Pestis?
LCR effector proteins aka YOPS casues cytoskeleton disruption which interferes with phagocytosis. It also prevents proinflammatory cytokine synthesis and inhibits oxidative outbursts.and enhances apoptosis. The F1 capsular protein protects the organism from phagocytosis.
What is the incubation period of Bubonic Y. Pestis?
2 to 6 days
What is the incubation period of Pneumonic Y. Pestis?
2 to 4 days
What other types of Y Pestis infections exist?
Pharyngitic and Meningitic
How to diagnose Bubonic Plague?
Aspirate enlarged lymph nodes and exam under microscope.
What is the treatment of Y. Pestis?
Streptomycin 1 gm per day
Gentamicin 5 mg/kg per day
