Placement / Clinical Skills Flashcards
How to do CPR outside of a hospital setting , during COVID -19 pandemic.
1-If someone is collapsed and not breathing normally do not put your face close to theirs.
2- Call for an ambulance.
3- Use a towel or a piece of clothing and lay it over the mouth and nose.
4- Do not do mouth to mouth
5-Start chest compressions to the tempo of “stayin alive” use a public access defibrillator if available.
Name 4 regions of the spine
- cervical
- thoracic
- lumbar
- sacral
What is the body casing that surrounds the spinal cord known as ?
The vertebral column
What is between each vertebrate and what is it’s function ?
Intervertebral discs
Work as a shock absorber and distribute the mechanical stresses applied to it equally.
What are the two components or a intervertebral disc?
Explain them ?
Nucleus pulposus - 88% water .Under pressure water is forced out of the nucleus seeps back when asleep.
Annul fibrosis - Concentric circles of fibrous tissue . Flattens under pressure and when pressure is released a elastic rebound occurs.
Function of the spine ( name 3 )
- Provide protection for spinal cord and its membrane
- Movement and support ( attachment of muscles )
- Attachments of ligaments to support vertebrae
- Stable base of support for all movement
What’s the risk assessment should follow before manual handling ?TILEO
Task Individual Load Environment Other factors
Give one function of a healthy vertebrate disc
Shock absorber
Withstand large loads
Distribute mechanical stress
Adapts to or enables effective spinal movement
Provide a reason for back pain
Poor posture
Inadequate risk assessment
Not using equipment properly
Not being prepared to lift
Name two examples of poor manual handling techniques
Twisting
Top heavy posture
Load too far away from body
