Nervous System Flashcards
Which lobe of the brain is responsible for interpreting information from the eyes
The occipital lobe
Name the four lobes of the cerebrum
Frontal , parietal , temporal and occipital
Name the three parts to the Brain stem
Mid brain , pons , medulla oblongata
Where in the brain is all movement initiated
Motor cortex
What does the right motor cortex control
The left hand side of the body
What does the left motor cortex control
Right side of the body
Where is the motor cortex located ?
Rear portion of the frontal lobe
Where is the sensory correct located
The front of the parietal lobe
Which cortex is responsible for hearing and which lobe is it in ?
Auditory cortex located in the temporal lobe
What is the cerebellum responsible for ?
Controlling automatic learnt movements such as riding a bike.
Posture and balance
What centres does the medulla oblongata have ?
Respiratory , cardiac , and reflex centres .
What do motor neurone send their impulses to ?
A skeletal muscle in order to cause movement
Name the parts of a motor neurone
Dendrites
Cell body
Axon
Myelin sheath
What are the cells called that wrap around the axon of a motor neuron? What do they create ?
Schwann cells
They create a myelin sheath
What are oligondendrocytes ?
The cell which makes a myelin sheath around axons in the PNS.
