Placed Munitions Flashcards
How do you ID fragmentation (LMAPERS)?
- stake, stick or brick
- may be of any shape. Earlier designs were rectangular, but newer ones are cylindrical
- may be made of wood with internal frag sleeve
What are the fragmentation (LMAPERS) safeties?
Placed->LMAPERS->
pressure/pull or both-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT(mine 5)
command det-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, EMR, static
How do you ID blast (LMAPERS)?
-generally lightweight material (plastic or bare HE) may or may not have an obvious pressure plate
What are the blast (LMAPERS) safeties?
Placed->LMAPERS->
pressure or pull-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT (mine 5)
How do you ID bounding frag (LMAPERS)?
- light metal multi-piece construction
- cylindrical in shape, taller than they are wide to accommodate the projectile
- may look like a large oil can with fuze
What are the bounding frag (LMAPERS) safeties?
Placed->LMAPERS->
pressure or pull-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, eject, 1hr WT
command det-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, eject, 1hr WT, EMR, static
How do you ID directional frag (LMAPERS)?
- body made of thin metal plastic
- most commonly known is the claymore
- curved to aid in the dissemination of frag material
What are the directional frag (LMAPERS) safeties?
Placed->LMAPERS->
pull-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT (mine 5)
command det-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, EMR, static
How do you ID chemical (APERS)?
- can be modified containers from anti-personnel mines
- thin metal cans or old one gallon gas cans, loaded with chemical agent
What are the chemical (APERS) safeties?
Placed->LMAPERS->
pull-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, chem
command det-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, chem, EMR, static
How do you ID blast (LMAT)?
- made of lightweight material; thin metal, plastic or ceramic
- larger due to amount of HE needed to produce necessary blast damage
- wider than they are tall, usually non magnetic for harder detection
What are the blast (LMAT) safeties?
Placed->LMAT->
pressure-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT (mine 5)
magnetic-HE, frag, move C/S, BT, seismic, mag, EMR, static,WT (mine5/mag5)
How do you ID HEAT (LMAT)?
- metal or plastic construction usually taller compared to blast mines to provide standoff
- provisions for tilt rod
What are the HEAT (LMAT) safeties
Placed->LMAT->
tilt rod-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, jet
magnetic-HE, frag, move, C/S, BT, seismic, mag, EMR, static, WT, jet (mine 5/mag5+jet)
How do you ID chemical (LMAT)?
-can be modified containers from anti-tank mines
