- retained

How can you ID dropped dispenser-retained?
A
- retained dispensers stay attached to the aircraft and can be reloaded and reused (no fuse wells)
- payloads are dispensed out the rear or from the bottom of the dispenser through multiple openings
- body is made of lightweight aluminum or steel

A
command fired (utilizes explosive cartridges or ram air which are initiated by the pilot

How can you ID dropped dispenser-released?
A
- dropped dispensers fall away from the aircraft and are stabilized in flight by fin assemblies
- separate at a predetermined height to deploy the payload
- dropped dispenser bodies are multi-piece construction either clamshell or tai-shell
- made from tin case metal
- Russian dispensers, most of the time will look like either a “water heater” or have a nose that almost comes to a point
