pilot studies Flashcards
pilot study
Problems that might occur with the research can often be spotted by doing a pilot study.
This is a small scale prototype of the study, carried out on a small number of participants.
Happens before the real investigation takes place.
Useful to find out potential problems with the design, whether the instructions are clear, whether questions are clear (in a questionnaire or interview), potential problems with the way the DV is measured and how long the study will take to carry out.
It gives the researcher useful practice in approaching participants and using any technical apparatus and materials.
Participants can be informed that it is a pilot study and asked for feedback on any problems with the procedure.
