Physical Activity for Specific Groups Flashcards
1
Q
Who influences Aboriginal kids to participate in physical activity?
A
Young kids are influenced by the people they see growing up and people that they idolize. Therefore, famous sports people are great advocates for young indigenous kids to participate in physical activity because they can see what they want to be when their older. Indigenous sports people, are a face for young kids to look up to and a position/goal that they want to achieve.

Q
Who are two influential indigenous sports people and how do they influence young people?
A
- Johnathan Thurston (Rugby player)
Johnathan is a classic example of someone who inspires young kids all over Australia, girl, boy, indigenous, non-indigenous. JT is a sportsman and a talented player who is someone who has come from a difficult childhood and getting caught up in crime. But Rugby was his release and his way to get back on track. He was always rejected from teams and got hate on the field, but his competitive nature wanted to prove them wrong. He now has won many awards for footy and was nominated Australian of the year for his charity work and organisations. He goes round to indigenous communities and helps the kids with their passions. - Kathy Freeman (Runner)
Kathy is a famous Australian runner who has won gold on many different occasions.
