Q

Name and describe the first stage in photosynthesis

A

Light dependent stage :

  1. Light energy from sun trapped in chlorophyll and converted into chemical energy
  2. Chlorophyll is found inside chloroplast
  3. Chemical energy produced is in the form of ATP
  4. Light energy used to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen
  5. Excess oxygen produced diffuses out of the cell
  6. Hydrogen produced is picked up by a hydrogen acceptor molecule

Q

Name and describe the second stage in photosynthesis

A
  1. Carbon dioxide, ATP, Hydrogen from the first stage are used to produce chemical energy in the form of sugar glucose
  2. Glucose is used for respiration, converted into and stored as starch or converted into the structural cell wall component cellulose
