Describe the structure of DNA

A

The two DNA strands are held together by complementary base pairs
The base adenine (A) always pairs with thymine (T)
The base cytosine (C) always pairs with guanine (G)

A

A double stranded helix which remains in the nucleus

What are the significance of the base pairs?

A

They make up the genetic code as the base sequence determines the order of amino acids in a proteins

What is Messenger RNA ( mRNA) ?

A

It carries a copy of the code from the nucleus to a ribosome where the protein is assembled from amino acid
The base sequence in the DNA gives the order of bases in the mRNA which determines the amino acid sequence in the protein
In mRNA the base U is in place of T
