Q

What is Photosynthesis?

A

Photosynthesis is a Endothermic reaction.(endothermic means a chemical rection in which heat energy is absorbed from the surroundings to form products)
it can not occur without the energy from the sun.

Q

What is the process of photosynthesis?

A

Light energy is captured for photosynthesis and begins when chlorophyll ( chlorophyll = green pigment in the leaves) absorbs energy from sunlight.

Chlorophyll is found in the chloroplast in plant cells, especially in the palisade and spongy mesophyll cells.

Plants take in/absorb carbon dioxide CO2 and water H2O from the air and soil.
Carbon Dioxide ( CO2) enters leaves through the stomata.
Water enters through the roots and is transported to the leaves in the xylem.

In the plant cell the water is oxidised meaning it looses electrons, and the carbon dioxide is reduced gaining electrons.

This transforms water into oxygen and carbon dioxide into glucose.
The plant releases the oxygen back into the air , oxygen = waste product, and stores energy in the glucose molecules.
Hydrogen is combined/mixed with carbon dioxide to make glucose.
Oxygen is released from the leaves making it available for respiration of animals and microorganisms.
Transforming light energy into chemical energy.

convert sunlight , carbon dioxide and water = glucose and oxygen.
Plants make their own food with photosynthesis.
