What is the Liver
The liver is an important organ which performs a wide range of jobs.
Can the Liver get infected by disease?
Yes. It can be affected by both infectious (caused by pathogens) and non infectious diseases.
Where is the position of the liver in the body?
Your liver is your largest internal organ and is at the upper right hand portion of the abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm, and on top of the stomach, right kidney and intestines.
What is the shape of the Liver?
Shaped like a cone, the liver is dark reddish brown and weighs about 3 lbs ( pounds)
What are the jobs of the liver?
It cleans your blood and breaks down dangerous molecules in the body eg alcohol
It produces an important digestive liquid called bile that is added to food to aid digestion.
It breaks down worn out red blood cells, saving the iron to make new red blood cells.

Hepatic Cells. These specialised cells carry out more chemical processes than any other group of cells in your body.
What do the Hepatic cells do?
Convert sugars and store and release them as needed, thereby regulating your blood sugar level.
Break down fats and produce cholesterol.
remove ammonia from your body and produce blood proteins including blood clotting factors.
What are the security guard cells?
A second group of liver cells are called the Kupffer cells.
they remove damaged red blood cells and destroy microbes and cell debris.
Is the Liver essential for life?
Yes. Your Liver fulfills so many vital functions. You would die with 24 hours if stopped working.
