What are the main presentations of a pheochromocytoma?
Pain
Perspiration
Palpatations
How else can a pheochromocytoma present?
• Pressure • Pain-headache • Perspiration- sweating • Palpitations • Pallor • Paroxysmal AF • Tremor Hypertension (possibly sustained)
How does the hypertension present in pheochromocytoma?
Sustained hypertension
What is the main diagnostic test for pheochromocytoma?
24 hour urinary collection of metanephrines
What is the management of a pheochromocytoma?
First: Alpha blocker
Then: Beta blocker
Definitive: Adrenalectomy
What is required before an adrenalectomy?
Alpha blocker and beta blocker
What alpha blocker would you give for pheochromocytoma?
Phenoxybenzamine
What beta blocker would you give for pheochromocytoma?
Propranolol
