How does phenylephrine work?

A

Acts on alpha adrenoreceptors.
No beta action.
Causes vasoconstriction and increased SVR

What is the dose of phenylephrine?

A

50-100mcg boluses titrated to effect

1mg vial contains 10mg - add to 100ml saline = 100mcg/ml

Rapid increase in SVR lasting 5-10 mins
