Cholinesterase inhibitor poisoning

A

Often due to organophosphates, such as parathion, that irreversibly inhibit AChE. (DUMBBELSS) Causes Diarrhea, Urination, Miosis, Bronchospasm, Bradycardia, Excitation of skeletal muslce and CNS, Lacrimation, Sweating, and Salivation. Tx - atropine (competitve inhibitor) + pralidoxime (regenerates AChE if given early)

Atropine toxicity

A

“Hot as a hare, Dry as a bone, Red as a beet, Blind as a bat, Mad as a hatter” inc body temperature (due to dec sweating); rapid pulse; dry mouth; dry, flushed skin; cycloplegia; constipation; disorientation.
