Neurology Flashcards
Entacapone
COMT inhibitor that primarily serves to increase the bioavailability of levodopa by inhibiting peripheral mehtylation. Tocapure is another COMT inhibitor that inhibits both perpheral and central methylation. Unlike entacpone, tolcapone has been assocated with hepatotoxicty. Remember that catechol-O-methyl-transferase (COMT) inhibitors should only be used in combination with levodopa, as they are otherwise infeffective.
