Pharmacology Flashcards
What is the mode of action of amiodarone?
Amiodarone blocks potassium channels, slows the rate of repolarisation, and increases the refractory period.
What do statins do?
Statins are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, widely used to decrease circulating LDL and triglycerides. Statins modestly increase HDL levels.
What is the mode of action of clopidogrel?
Clopidogrel works by inhibiting the ADP receptor found on platelets, preventing activation and degranulation.
How do beta-lactams work?
Beta-lactam antibiotics are bactericidal. They inhibit the transpeptidation reaction of bacterial cell wall synthesis
How do aminoglycosides work?
Aminoglycosides interfere with protein synthesis
How do quinolone anitbiotics work?
quinolones interfere with DNA synthesis
