Pharmacodynamics Flashcards
Pharmacodynamics
the study of what the drug does to the body
inducer
increases the function of an enzyme, cell, or tissue
inhibitors
decrease the function of an enzyme, cell or tissue
receptor interaction
drug binds with a reactive site on the surface of the cell
receptor sites
sites on the cell membrane that bind with the drug
Agonist
activates cell function by stimulating receptors
antagonist
inhibits its cell function by occupying receptor sites
Enzyme Interaction
enzyme binds to the drug rather than the natural chemical
Nonselective Interactions
other mechanisms that do not involve receptor sites or enzymes
metabolic disorders
a problem with normal breakdown or synthesis of chemical in the body usually a genetic disorder
PHARMACOGENETIC
the study of genetic traits that result in the abnormal metabolism of drugs
fast acetylator metabolic status
some drugs are metabolized faster
slow acetylator metabolic status
some drugs are metabolized slower
G6PD Deficiency
also known as favism
Butyrylcholinesterase Variant
decreased metabolism of succinylcholine
