tight control, human volunteers, safety/effects
phase 2 study:
informed patients with that disease that drug is helping with, controlled environment, promise
phase 3 study:
vast clinical market, uncontrolled environment
phase 4 study:
continue evaluation of drug, relies on consumer for effects to report
brand name:
pharmaceutical, time-limit patent, capital letter
generic name:
cheaper, same active ingredients, no capital letter
OTC (over the counter drugs)
without prescription, deemed safe, can mask signs/symtpoms of disease, interact with prescrition drugs, lead to toxicity/overdose
nursing responsibility:
administer drugs, assess drug effect, intervene make drug more tolerable, client education, monitor client care to prevent errors, know resources, lifelong learning and continue to learn about new drugs
